History
The BAI familyBack in the mid 1970's, companies wanting a computer system had limited choices. They either bought a "canned system," or hired a full-time programmer to develop a custom system. Either way, they had to be prepared to spend a great deal of money. BAI's founders, Doug Nation and Frank Eperjesi, believed that businesses should not be forced to change their operations to fit into canned programs, but rather the software solution should be modified to match the operation.

At the time, Doug & Frank were systems analysts working at a computer hardware manufacturer called General Automation. With a burning desire to bring cost effective automation to the marketplace, and an entrepreneurial spirit, they started BAI in September of 1975. They purchased a computer and the rights to a software package offered by GA, and set out to realize their dream. Over the years, a hand-picked staff of technical and sales professionals emerged and the dream became a reality.

Since 1975, many changes have taken place in the fast-paced information technology industry. Always at the forefront of technology, BAI rewrote its software in 1979 to take advantage of a revolutionary new concept--the first relational database manager offered on multiple brands of hardware. Today, the software operates on many different platforms, UNIX, LINUX and Windows operating systems.

More than a quarter century later, Doug and Frank continue to prove that their idea to offer customizable, cost effective software was a good one. The two still own the company and oversee the day-to-day operation. BAI is now a recognized leader in the industry, has offices on both coasts, has one of the finest technical support staffs, and has nearly 400 installations throughout North America.
Corporate Profile
Business Automation, Incorporated (BAI), is a business computer systems company firmly established in the marketplace. We are specialists at solving the information management problems of medium to large companies through the use of computerized business systems. The company was founded in 1975 on the premise that small businesses, as well as larger companies, need the capabilities and analysis that computers offer. We also believed that businesses should not be forced to change their operations to fit into "canned programs," but rather the software solution should be modified to match the operation.

We have developed a technical staff of systems analysts who are much more than computer programmers. They are business consultants who know how to design and implement complex information management solutions. Our people are intimately familiar with the data processing requirements needed to properly manage a business.

BAI can assume single source responsibility for the entire solution: hardware, software, requirements analysis, programming, training, installation and on-going maintenance and support.

Business Plan

In 1975 BAI formulated a business plan that contained the following elements:

  1. Provide a single source data processing service.
  2. Supply only the highest quality hardware/software combinations.
  3. Develop vertical software packages.
  4. Maintain a very high level of computer system expertise.
  5. Grow the company through retained earnings.
  6. Always keep in mind that BAI is a service company.
Business Actuality

Since 1975, the above elements have kept us on track and allowed BAI to attain the following performance:

Business Automation is currently providing business systems to organizations throughout the North America. Our installations cover companies that range in size from 8 to over 300 users. From 1975 through 1978, the founders (and still current owners) of BAI dedicated the majority of the company's resources to develop software.

Business Automation was founded, and is still managed by, business systems experts. The officers and directors of BAI have many years of system analysis/programming experience and each has installed many systems. This in-depth knowledge and working experience has allowed BAI to develop a professional staff of system analysts who are experts in solving information management problems required to successfully keep tight control of today's business. Our technical staff members average more than fifteen years experience, and many of them have been with BAI for over 20 years.

Our initial decision to provide a high level of service is, and always will be, the mainstay of our business plan to becoming the best choice when seeking a business system supplier.
